Re: “Langford plans to sue protesters,” Feb. 27.

So Langford Mayor Stewart Young wants to waste ratepayers’ money and tie up the courts suing poor protesters to recover the policing cost for their overkill crackdown on some peaceful defenders of wildlife.

Litigation Chronicles – Chapter 2

sinkholeurban.jpgIt has been reported by CHEK News that land expropriated by Langford to make way for a connector from Sooke Lake Rd. to Amy road has a garbage dump buried beneath it.  The land was formerly part of Goldstream Trailer Park.

Building a road over the land would create the obvious problem that it would be at risk of sinking.  Langford taxpayers may now find themselves on the hook for extra costs in digging up and then filling in the entire area before construction of the Sooke Lake Rd./Amy Road Connector.

Bill Mattison of Goldstream Trailer Park and former owner of the land, referred to what he called the “cowboy mentality” with which Langford approached things.  He indicated he warned them about the underground dump, and that they chose not to heed his warnings. Read the rest of this entry »
