Re: Article by Ben Isitt on conflict of interest in Langford Council.
This was a well researched and pointed article. What is really interesting is it brings into question the appropriateness of Councillor John Goudy, moving as well as voting on two bylaws that were essential to the work on Spencer/Bare Mtn. Interchange. Full build out means how many more lots sold, and how many more tens of thousands of dollars to Councillor Goudy? As Mr Isitt clearly states, there may not be legal conflict of interest, but certainly a sense of impropriety. As has been said, “not only must Caesars wife be pure, but she must be seen to be pure”. Since Councillor Goudy has abstained in the past, why not these times? Read the rest of this entry »

Whose home is it? … And who’s calling the shots?

Don’t know what the point was of Friday’s anti-protester protest at the site of the Spencer Road interchange, other than straight intimidation.
It sure wasn’t public relations. There’s nothing like a YouTube clip of a grown man, backed by 100 or more construction workers, calling a woman a “f-ing slut” to build sympathy for demonstrators who might otherwise have been dismissed as the usual assortment of shrubby silver-spoon activists who rally against everything.
So much for civil discourse — though you can argue that ship sailed a long time ago, before people started crushing caves and masking their faces and vandalizing construction equipment. Read the rest of this entry »
