On the wild West Shore, it seems everybody gets a slice of the Bear Mountain pie

Runoff from the Bear Mountain money geyser has a way of seeping into every facet of life on the West Shore, and even the region’s elected politicians aren’t immune from snatching the occasional egg from Langford’s golden goose.

Early this week a vigilant Monday tipster noticed a massive stump grinder, belonging to Highlands mayor Mark Cardinal, chewing through the remnants of what was once a Douglas fir forest around the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Leigh Road.

That’s where an as-yet unapproved cloverleaf interchange is being built to provide access to an impending Bear Mountain suburb on the south-western slope of Skirt Mountain. Read the rest of this entry »
