Campfire ban in place

Posted by Steven Hurdle on July 24, 2008

Until further notice, no campfires or open burning are allowed within Langford until further notice. The Langford Fire Department is rating the current fire risk as “Extreme”, and may stay that way for the next while because (as of midnight Wednesday) the Westshore 14-day weather forecast suggests we’ll have little, if any, rain over the next two weeks (and daytime highs between 18 and 28 degrees).

Yippee! Out here near Humpback Road, those of us with breathing problems been driven inside with closed windows many evenings for a lot of this summer due to campfire smoke from Goldstream Park which settles in the lowlands. It always seemed unfair that we could not roast weenies in our back yard, while 200 campfires filled the air with smoke just a couple of blocks away. I hope the ban lasts the rest of the summer!
