Proposed Latoria cell tower to be discussed Monday night at Langford Council

Sharon Noble of CAUSE (Citizens Against Unsafe Emissions), who recently held a public meeting on the existing Triangle Mountain transmission towers, and who alerted the public to the proposed new tower on Latoria Road, sent along this note about that proposed new tower coming up for discussion at the forthcoming Langford Council meeting this Monday.
– Steven Hurdle -
I have just been advised that the Latoria cell tower will be on the agenda for the meeting this coming Monday, at 7:00 pm on the 3rd floor of 877 Goldstream.
People have asked to address the council on the need for an antenna consultation policy, which would require public notification of all future towers and antenna. Without such a policy, any time a company applies for a tower installation, and the tower is less than 30 meters in height, notification is required only to those within a distance 3 times the height of the tower. That is why the Latoria cell tower almost slipped by us. Ind. Can. acknowledges the right for a municipality to have such a policy and states, in its Jan.1 2008 circular CPC 2-0-03, it will follow any such policy. Where no policy exists, the default policy is the 3 times rule.
This is our opportunity to voice our concerns to Langford. Whether you live in Langford or Colwood, this lack of policy can affect you.
Hope to see you on Monday. Please encourage your friends and neighbours to join you there.
