I received a press release from a person named Ryan Hinton who intends to run for Langford Council for the November 15th election. Other than that, all is quiet on the municipal election front, with even the incumbents having not said if they’re running again. Below is Mr. Hinton’s press release.

New Face Wants on Langford Council
Ryan Hinton, a recent graduate of the University of Victoria (Bachelors of Arts Degree in Geography and Political Science), announced today he is running for Langford city council in the November municipal election. Hinton is 33 years old and works as a policy and research analyst for the BC Provincial Government. He has lived in Langford for 4 years and in Greater Victoria for over 25 years. A strong family oriented community is important to Hinton, where he and his wife Yasmeen can raise their 16 month old son and future children.
Hinton believes the primary goal of an elected official is to obtain and maintain public trust, which he will achieve by balancing development and environmental issues, engaging in meaningful public consultation, and being accountable and fiscally responsible.
According to Hinton, more attention needs to be given to the neighbourhoods of Langford. He is amazed that many of the main roads used by pedestrians do not have sidewalks or adequate street lighting. Hinton stresses there are streets in Langford, used everyday by children to walk to school, that have no sidewalks. Therefore, Hinton wants to provide more infrastructures to individual neighbourhoods, thus making a safer and stronger community, especially for children.
Hinton wants to see more targeted development in Langford; specifically, he believes Langford and Greater Victoria would be better served if office buildings were erected in the Westshore, instead of more box stores and condominiums. Many people in the Westshore work in office environments in other areas of Greater Victoria. Hinton thinks it would be great if more people could live and work in the Westshore. Transportation is also a key issue for Hinton, as he wants to explore the use of light-rail transit, the EN rail line, bus only lanes, and high occupancy vehicle lanes.
Hinton welcomes all inquiries and questions, which can be sent to his email: ryan_hinton@shaw.ca.

I filed my nomination papers today and issued a press release, which C-FAX 1070 used.
For those people that also intend to file their nomination papers, I recommend that you contact City Hall prior to taking your nomination package there. When I went to submit my papers this morning, the two staff members that have the authority to accept and sign the nomination papers were out of the office. Thankfully, I very helpful staff member made some phone calls, and one of the signing authorities arrived about 10 minutes later.
To ensure you do not have the same difficulty as I did, please phone to ensure they will be able to accept your nomination papers when you arrive.
Also a reminder that general voting day is November 15, and there are advance voting opportunities on November 5 and 12. I encourage everyone to vote, and I hope you will support me and my campaign.
I can be reached at 250-516-7931 or ryan_hinton@shaw.ca.
Thank you.
