The development at 662 Goldstream (the former PayLess Gas Station, sandwiched between Goldstream and Granderson) came up at Monday night’s Langford Council meeting again. This time it was up for its public hearing, as it inched it way towards final adoption.
Langford City Planner Matthrew Baldwin noted that Read the rest of this entry »

There will be no Planning and Zoning Committee meeting this coming week, nor any other council or committee meetings. Normally Planning and Zoning would meet the second and fourth Monday of every month. Since there are usually a lot of “planning” and/or “zoning” issues to discuss in Langford at any given time, the committee not meeting usually means that they know in advance that they won’t be able to meet quorum.
At the last Langford Council meeting, during the discussion about the BC Summer Games 2012 Application, Councillor Sifert noted (without explanation) that Read the rest of this entry »

The City of Langford intends to bid for the BC Summer Games, and believes it can get its ducks in a row for the 2012 games. The deadline is December 15th, and a committee was struck on Monday night to finish putting the bid together. The committee selection process was interesting, with Stew Young indicating to specific individuals that he wanted them to volunteer for it, eliciting a few chuckles from the audience.
Mayor Stew Young noted that by that time “we’ll have all the new arenas and fields.” The intention is to do a joint application in conjunction with Tourism Victoria. Victoria’s involvement is important, Mayor Young says, because Read the rest of this entry »

Two days after Inside Langford discussed the fact that Langford was the only municipality without any information on their web site about the forthcoming November 15th municipal elections, Langford’s website now sports an article with some general information (and links to other resources) about the upcoming election.
One interesting detail in the information they posted is Read the rest of this entry »

I received a press release from a person named Ryan Hinton who intends to run for Langford Council for the November 15th election. Other than that, all is quiet on the municipal election front, with even the incumbents having not said if they’re running again. Below is Mr. Hinton’s press release.

At tonight’s Council meeting, Langford Council endorsed Knappet Construction’s bid for building the highway bridge for the Spencer Road Interchange. Interestingly, they did so without any discussion whatsoever, they just went straight to the vote.
The approved bid costs Read the rest of this entry »

An Inside Langford reader contacted me to ask where on the City of Langford’s website one could find information about the coming November 15th municipal election. I took a look for her, and I also couldn’t find any information about the municipal election, despite it being only two months away.
I got curious as to whether Langford was alone in this? As it turns out, yes it is. All of the 12 other Greater Victoria municipalities have election info on their websites Read the rest of this entry »

Last month Inside Langford published an article entitled “Finishing What One Starts“. It related the news that while some developers were finishing their affordable housing units as well as their full-priced units, some were not completing the landscaping of the affordable housing units. It now appears that in some cases, the things left incomplete may have had bigger implications.
Reports indicate that some affordable housing units had secondary doorways roughed-in (door frames even installed) that were then plywooded over. In another reported case, a retaining wall Read the rest of this entry »

The agenda is up for Monday night’s Council meeting. Amongst several development applications being discussed or voted upon, City Hall receiving an award for their affordable housing strategy, and a committee report on renewing property tax exemptions for 2009 (often granted to churchs and certain other institutions), are a few more controversial nuggets. Some might be interested in a variance request for a large sign for the Sheraton hotel on the A&W restaurant property on McCallum Road (West). Other people might be interested in the bids for the actual bridge itself for the Spencer Road Interchange, which will cost Read the rest of this entry »
