Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on October 31, 2008

The November 2008 issue of Focus Magazine asked a random sample of municipal candidates running in the Greater Victoria/CRD area the question, “What’s your dream city?” Candidates from the WestShore that appear in the article include Ute Schnarr – candidate for the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area, Judith Cullington and Shaun Wysiecki – candidates for Colwood Council, and Steven Hurdle – candidate for Langford Council.

Focus Magazine is mailed to some homes, rotating to different neighbourhoods over the course of a year, and is found in neighbourhood pick-up boxes and various businesses around Greater Victoria area. The Thrifty Foods at Colwood corners has a wide variety of local magazines, including Focus Magazine.

12 of 13 Candidates at the Langford All-Candidates Meeting

Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on October 29, 2008

While the people who came out to the Langford All-Candidates Meeting did almost fill up all the seating in the Masonic Lodge on Goldstream Ave., the venue is quite small, so it was not a large turnout in relation to the number of eligible voters in Langford. However, it was good that 12 of the 13 candidates were able to attend, only Harry Kuiack did not Read the rest of this entry »

Federal Election Recount Completed

Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on October 27, 2008

Keith Martin will be staying on as this area’s MP, as the vote recount sought by Conservative candidate Troy DeSouza was terminated by Troy when it became evident that that number of disputed ballots could not overturn the small margin that Keith Martin won by, as reported in the Victoria Times Colonist. Officially Keith Martin won by 68 votes, however Read the rest of this entry »

No meetings scheduled at Langford City Hall this week

Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on October 26, 2008

Normally, today’s post would alert you to the upcoming meetings at City Hall. The agendas for the next week’s council or committee meetings are usually posted late Friday, which considering how long even some the committee agendas are, like Planning & Zoning, gives the councillors, the public volunteer committee members, and interested members of the public very little time to read over all the information. This week they all got a reprieve I am assuming, as there are no agendas up on Langford’s website. Read the rest of this entry »

Vick Siu – Candidate for Councillor in Langford and Colwood

Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on October 24, 2008

Vick Siu is running for Councillor in the City of Langford and the City of Colwood. This is perfectly legal, though highly unusual. He lives in Colwood and works in Langford and said in the Times Colonist article about Vick Siu’s candidacy he was encouraged to run by people in both municipalities.

Inside Langford is a News blog, not a campaign site

Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on October 21, 2008

In the interests of fairness to all, as only some, not all of the candidates running for Langford Council comment here, and in recognition that this is a news site that encourages public discussion through commenting on news stories and issues happening within Langford, I am ending the thread of comments purely questioning and answering questions to individual candidates about their views and platforms, as this is campaigning, but only campaigning by a select few, which seems blatantly unfair.
