Citizen journalism

Some week ago, someone linked to Inside Langford’s article on the Gated Communities in Bear Mountain, on the Vibrant Victoria online forums, and a discussion resulted (starting on post #657). One of them complimented Inside Langford and said “that’s a great citizen journalism blog you’re writing!”

I’ve thought a lot about that “citizen journalism” line ever since, and more recent Bill Cleverley giving me the nickname of the “Langford watchdog”. I think, more appropriately, everyone who participates on Inside Langford deserves those two titles. Some of the things that get posted here are sent to me by other people interested in Langford news, or in more accountability in local government, and sometimes the comments left by readers are the most interesting and informative parts of an article. In our own ways every participant of this website is contributing to that Langford Watchdog role.
