At tonight’s Langford Council meeting, it was announced by our mayor that the new Goudy Branch library would be opening in about two-and-a-half weeks. Noting a Times Colonist reporter present, and seeming to gesture in his direction, Mayor Young stated “I just want to mention, because I see a reporter from the paper is here, that the opening of the library has changed to October 24th.”
The public participation session features residents and our mayor in, at-times, heated discussions on the issue of the Province’s plans to force binding arbitration on proposed amendments to the Regional Growth Strategy. An unusual facet of this was that everyone seemed to agree that no one should be telling the Highlands (the municipality most directly affected by the proposed RGS amendment) what to do. Yet, for the majority of residents at the meeting this meant not participating in a process that would force binding arbitration, but for Mayor Young and Langford Council this meant electing to participate in a process that would end with forcing binding arbitration. Look for a complete report in the coming days.
