Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on October 23, 2008
The depot is moving from the WestHills Planning Centre at 957 Langford Parkway (Hull’s Corner) just down the street to Belmont Secondary School (Staff Parking Lot, north lot on Jacklin near Kelly Rd). Every 2nd Saturday of the month, the WestShore Pacific Mobile Recycling Depot in Langford accepts recyclables that are “beyond the blue box program” for a suggested minimum donation. Also new – now accepting debit, MasterCard, Visa, & American Express. The depot starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends promptly at 1:00 p.m. The depot allows items to be recycled that normally end up in the landfill such as:
1) HARD PLASTICS – ex. plastic plates & cutlery, CDs, ABS plastic pipe, and plastic flower pots etc.
2) SOFT PLASTICS – ex. clean trash & retail bags, cereal box inserts, bread & frozen food bags, shrink wrap, etc. (NOTE: Foil-lined bags go in a separate category).
3) FOIL-LINED BAGS – bags that are inner-lined with foil, ex. some coffee bags (remove metal/plastic tie), foil-lined chip bags & candy wrappers.
4) MILK/SOY DRINK BOXES & CARTONS – non refundable gable top & aseptic containers, ex. “Island Farms” cartons, “So Nice: soya milk tetra litres.
5) POLYSTYRENE FOAM CUPS/CONTAINERS – ex. meat trays, egg cartons, cups, take-out food clam shell containers. (Note: All These containers MUST be washed thoroughly.)
6) POLYSTYRENE FOAM PACKING BLOCKS – ex. packing blocks for breakable or electronic equipment.
7) POLYSTYRENE FOAM PACKING PEANUTS – please bring contained, separated from everything else.
8) STYROFOAM INSULATION – comes in a light blue, pink, or green colour, widely used as insulation.
9) ELECTRONICS – ex. computers, scanners, printers – cost by item, batteries, camera, cell phones, VCRs, hair dryers, coffee makers cost by weight.
This initiative is a joint venture of Belmont Secondary School (Sooke School District) and Climate Action West Shore, West Shore Chamber of Commerce. Of the funds raised on the West Shore through Pacific Mobile Depots 20% will stay in our community to support green learning activities.

Thank you very much for thinking about these extra products that end up in our garbage and its a shame that the curbside does not pick up the plastics and such. I will definately use your service and donate!!

Just note that the times changed about two years ago – it is now 9am-12pm, so please folks, do not show up after noon, we will be not be taking any more recycling. All PMD’s depots are now 9am-12pm. And the Jan. depots are usually incredibly BUSY!!! So come prepared to stand in a lineup for a bit. It seems the holiday gift giving/shop-til-you-drop season creates alot more recycling. To find out when the depot is – it is usually the 2nd Sat. of each month, just check the Inside Langford Community Calendar – I put up the Recycling Depot date, time and location every month.
