Plastics and Stryofoam Recycling Depot – this Saturday

Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on May 6, 2009

Once again this coming Saturday is the PMD Depot, 10AM – 1PM, in the Belmont High School parking lot off Jacklin Road.

It is quicker for everyone, including you, if you pre-sort your recyclables into these categories:

1) all hard plastics (remove any metal bits) from plastic containers to children’s toys

2) soft plastics (remove food residue and any nonsoft plastic attachments, aluminum coated soft plastic is its own category) includes shopping bags, cereal box inserts, soft wrap around food and other products

3) aluminum coated plastics – for example chip bags, granola bar wrappers, some yogurt container pull tops

4) processed & coated paper – including milk cartons, tetra litres & mini-paks – for soya/rice milks, soup, & mini-drink boxes, and processed/coated frozen or hot food trays and cups

5) styrofoam – 3 subcategories – i) clean packaging stryrofoam ii) food grade styrofoam (which must be washed) – meat and snack trays, styro egg cartons and cups, iii) peanut styrofoam (please bring inside a closed container).

6) electronics – like computers, printers, household appliances, taken individually by weight.

Note: PMD does NOT do plain paper, cardboard, or tin cans – all of which CAN go in your CRD Blue Box curbside collection. PMD also does not do metal, rubber or vinyl.

Payment can be made by credit card, debit or cash.
