Luxton Station Market moving to downtown Langford?
Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on May 18, 2009
NOTE: This post goes into more detail on an item in Tuesday night’s agenda.
From the staff report:
Luxton Station Market Society” has been in discussions with the City of Langford about establishing a seasonal community/farmers’ market (June – October) on Bryn Maur Road, Saturday mornings from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. This seasonal community market is proposed to enhance the economic environment of the downtown core on weekends, promote sustainable local food production and consumption and also create a vibrant downtown core. With the recent completion of the Bryn Maur Road permeable paving project and area beautification, this use of Bryn Maur Road is in keeping with the “woonerf philosophy” that underlays its development. This area is served by public transit and by our own local trolley. Bicycle racks will be located nearby to promote cycling. It is suggested that a name change and/or branding exercise be undertaken to better describe the concept, the name of “Goldstream Station Market” is proposed.
Options for Council consideration:
1. Direct staff to prepare a road closure allowance for Saturdays beginning Saturday, May 30th and ending Saturday, October 17th between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm to permit a Community Market on Bryn Maur Road for 2009;
AND
2. Waive any license fee associated with operation of the market for 2009;
AND
3. Support staff investing up to $4,000 in signage and barricades for the market from the
Beautification and Festivals Contingency Fund;
OR
4. Take no further action at this time with respect to a community market in this location.”

There’s an article on the proposal on the Luxton Station Market home page, but it can’t be linked to directly so I’ll copy it here for people’s interest.
