Langford issues coming up on CBC Radio
Posted by Steven Hurdle on September 23, 2009
Tomorrow (Thursday) Langford Fire Chief Bob Beckett will be discussing, on CBC Radio’s morning show, his plans for emergency services access to Bear Mountain.
Friday morning, I have been invited to discuss Langford issues on CBC Radio as well.
The time of the interviews is dependant on how busy a news day it is, but it was suggested to me that it might be during their prime-time, likely at 7:15am.
Interested people may tune in to 90.5 FM, or click here to listen to the online streaming feed:

Peace Officer Bylaw to 3rd reading with no discussion by Council
Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on September 12, 2009
Several speakers spoke in Public Participation about the Officer and Peace Officer Bylaw 1243:
Doug Rowe, a past member of Langford’s Planning & Zoning Committee, voiced concern that bylaw officers might be endangering themselves entering situations without the same level of training and equipment a police officer would have and wondered why these duties would not be left to the police.
Vern Trew, a past candidate for Langford Council, expressed his opinion that the bylaw violated the Canadian Bill of Rights regarding personal freedom and property rights. As well, at the end of his speaking, Vern Trew noted, he was “legally serving papers on Langford Council,” and proceeded to deposit a large envelope Read the rest of this entry »

*UPDATED* No longer mysterious upcoming Tues. Council meeting
Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on September 5, 2009
(UPDATED: Part 2 of the agenda is now on the City of Langford website and here in the files area, some further details will be elaborated on once I have had time to read Part 2.) The next council meeting coming up this Tues. Sept. 8th at 7PM has some interesting items listed (see below) like Bylaw 1243 Langford Officer & Peace Officer Bylaw. I would like to elaborate on all of the agenda, however, the Agenda Only file and a second file containing only the very first part of the upcoming detailed agenda WERE originally the only files on the City of Langford website (and saved here in the files area). The remaining agenda items, *ALL* the Bylaws to be passed including 2 bylaws receiving 1st, 2nd, and 3rd reading at this one meeting, 4 bylaws being adopted and 2 others receiving 3rd reading WERE missing from the agenda available on the City of Langford website, UNTIL CORRECTED. Unfortunately, even the Staff Report to Council on Bylaw 1243 Langford Officer & Peace Officer WAS also missing. At Tuesday night’s Council Meeting it should be the very first time mayor and any of the councillors have had the opportunity together to discuss the proposed bylaw that is slated to go to 3rd reading Read the rest of this entry »
