*UPDATED* No longer mysterious upcoming Tues. Council meeting
Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on September 5, 2009
(UPDATED: Part 2 of the agenda is now on the City of Langford website and here in the files area, some further details will be elaborated on once I have had time to read Part 2.) The next council meeting coming up this Tues. Sept. 8th at 7PM has some interesting items listed (see below) like Bylaw 1243 Langford Officer & Peace Officer Bylaw. I would like to elaborate on all of the agenda, however, the Agenda Only file and a second file containing only the very first part of the upcoming detailed agenda WERE originally the only files on the City of Langford website (and saved here in the files area). The remaining agenda items, *ALL* the Bylaws to be passed including 2 bylaws receiving 1st, 2nd, and 3rd reading at this one meeting, 4 bylaws being adopted and 2 others receiving 3rd reading WERE missing from the agenda available on the City of Langford website, UNTIL CORRECTED. Unfortunately, even the Staff Report to Council on Bylaw 1243 Langford Officer & Peace Officer WAS also missing. At Tuesday night’s Council Meeting it should be the very first time mayor and any of the councillors have had the opportunity together to discuss the proposed bylaw that is slated to go to 3rd reading, since the bylaw is not being forwarded to council by a committee. A bylaw once at 3rd reading should not be changed prior to adoption at a subsequent council meeting. (Note: It was explained at a Langford Protective Services Committee meeting I attended that Langford Bylaw Enforcement Officers are legally considered Peace Officers in the commission of investigating bylaw issues.)

I have emailed a variety of Langford staff people, hopefully some very dedicated Langford staff person can fix this problem before the next business day, Tuesday, the same day of the council meeting. The fix happening on Tuesday would leave practically no time for Langford residents to review the agenda and decide if they wish to attend and possibly participate. Langford has very hardworking and dedicated staff people and fixes have been done over the weekend on the website before, so we can hope.

There are very dedicated hardworking people that attend to the City of Langford website, even on long weekends. Before 8:30AM the next day (Sunday morning) the missing second part of the agenda was up on the City of Langford website.
