Enhanced Inside Langford email updates

Posted by Steven Hurdle on November 11, 2009

Dozens of people choose to get Inside Langford’s posts emailed to them every day (when there is new content, no email is generated on a day without a news post). We’ve enhanced Inside Langford’s email content, with the email’s subject line now containing the title of the latest post (and a note if there are additional posts that day) to make it easier for people to find the stories that interest them.

While you’ve been able to receive Inside Langford posts by emai for over a year, you haven’t been able to receive reader comments that way. The reader comments are the most popular feature of Inside Langford, so by popular demand you can now also subscribe to Inside Langford reader comments by email, receiving an email with a summary of a day’s comments (if there are no comments on a given day, no email will be generated). Click here to subscribe to Inside Langford Reader Comments by email.

  1. While we’re on the topic of site enhancements, I’ve implemented what I hope is an enhancement to reader comments today. Now when there are 11 or more comments to a newspost, or to a page like the Langford Community Calendar, it will break the comments into groups of ten. It will show the last few and let you click a link to scroll through the older entries. This will ensure recent comments aren’t so far down the page that they’re difficult to find, as has happened on occasion for particularly commented-upon articles, or pages like Reader News and the Community Calendar where there is a steady stream of new comments.

If you have opinion (for or against) this change, please reply and let me know. And when in doubt, subscribe to comments via email (see the post above) so you never miss one.

  2. One additional enhancement to the Inside Langford email updates is that buttons to “Email this” and “Share on Facebook” have been added to make it easier to share I.L. content with others. If you sign up for email updates, or have already been receiving them, please try the feature and let us know how it works, or if you have any problems.
