Annual report to be considered June 21st.

Cheryl McLachlan reported that the annual report would be considered at last night’s Langford Council meeting. However, it was not on the agenda. There is now a note on the City of Langford’s website that the annual report will be considered “Notice of Council Meeting to Consider Annual Report — The 2009 Annual Report will be considered at the Council Meeting on June 21st, 2010″. The annual report itself does not appear to be online, at least not yet. The notice itself indicates that the annual report will be available at City Hall during business hours, but in recent years has also been made available online.

Some free advice for politicians. If you want to bury bad financial news then the best way to do it is include it in the annual report and release it to the public on the same day and manner as you normally would. It is called hiding in plain site.
When you start delaying council discussions and forcing people to walk into City Hall to presumably provide the secret handshake then all you are doing to is telling everyone that there is a problem.

One can only surmise that, as this will be a lengthy document, then paper copies would be given out to any folks with time and inclination to wander in to peruse the Annual Report.
Perhaps Langford, in keeping with its “Green Initiative” should consider posting the full report on their website for all to review. Transparent and Green….what a concept.
