There are reports coming in of an ammonia leak at the recently built Westhills Arena, near Glen Lake and Langford Lake. Several fire departments, and the Greater Victoria hazard materials (hazmat) team have responded. Residents are apparently being evacuated within about a 1 kilometre radius.

Locals Go ‘Movember’

Posted by Cheryl McLachlan on November 24, 2011

Movember is already 3/4s over.

What is Movember you ask? Check out this website for all the info. http://ca.movember.com/about/

“During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer.”

Do you know anyone fundraising for Movember? They do NOT have to be famous, imfamous or notable – just local, to Langford, the Westshore or even Greater Victoria. (You can search to see if someone is registered by using their name in the “Go Mo” search box in the upper right hand corner of the website http://ca.movember.com/?home)

Here are some local fundraisers I found:

2011 Langford election results

Posted by Steven Hurdle on November 19, 2011

The preliminary 2011 election results are already up on the City of Langford website:

Preliminary 2011 Langford Election Results

The spread between the top vote getting, and the bottom vote getting, candidate for Council tightened over 2008. Denise Blackwell topped the polls with 1960 votes, with Sean Horgan bringing up the rear at 1019. The result for Sean Horgan may be a surprise to some, as he appears not to have done any campaigning whatsoever (no signs, did not participate in Shaw TV interviews, did not appear to submit a response to the Times Colonist, was not present for the all-candidates forum, etc.).

For the mayoral race, it was 2319 for Stew Young to 519 for Christopher Johnson.

The lowest-polling winning candidate is Roger Wade with 1640 votes, and the highest-polling losing candidate is Grant McLachlan with 1219 votes.

Candidate materials at all-candidates

Posted by insidelangford on November 17, 2011

This table looks at the handouts candidates made available at the all-candidates forum. Candidates are listed in alphabetical order, within mayoral and council candidates. The total notes how many categories their handout touched on, with higher numbers indicating more informative and/or greener handouts. Most columns should be self-expanatory (eg. recycled paper means the handout was printed on recycled paper, double-sided means the handout used both sides and no “X” in that column means one side was blank, etc.), but if you have any questions please leave them in the comments.

Chris Johnson

Posted by Steven Hurdle on November 15, 2011

We invited any of the Langford or School Trustee candidates who wished to do so to submit, well, to submit anything they wanted to share with voters. Chris Johnson, a candidate for mayor, responded:

“One thing I don’t emphasize enough is that my own personal #1 priority (which may or may not be the people of Langford’s priority) is that we Read the rest of this entry »
